1. Nissan Kicks

Launch Date: 22nd January

With its sales dropping in India, Nissan has decided to fight back with a new compact SUV for India in the form of the Kicks. The Kicks SUV was first unveiled in 2016 ahead of the Rio Olympics and while the SUV for India is the same in terms of design, its underpinnings are decidedly different. The India-spec Kicks is based on the B0 platform that also underpins the Duster and the Captur from Renault. The heavily localised Kicks is expected to be powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines used by the Captur MPV.

2. Tata Harrier

Launch Date: 23rd January

The Tata Harrier is perhaps the most hyped vehicle that Tata Motors from the Indian automotive giant. The large 5-seater Harrier SUV was first unveiled as the H5X concept at Auto Expo 2018. The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine sourced from Fiat. Rebranded as Kryotec by Tata, the engine cranks out 138bhp and 350Nm of torque. The Harrier will only be offered with a manual transmission and front-wheel-drive by Tata Motors when it arrives at the end of the month.

3. Mahindra XUV300

Expected Launch: Mid-February

Mahindra's answer to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will arrive in the middle of February 2019. The new vehicle, which bears the name XUV300 is based on the Tivoli SUV from Ssangyong, which is the South Korean subsidiary of Mahindra. The new Mahindra XUV300 will be powered by the same 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine found on the Marazzo MPV. The petrol powerplant will be an all-new turbocharged petrol engine that is expected to displace 1.2-litres. The XUV300 will bring many premium features to the sub-4-metre SUV segment including dual DRLs up front, disc brakes for all four wheels, up to seven airbags, dual zone climate control and a sunroof.

4. Jeep Compass Trailhawk

Expected Launch: Early 2019

The Compass Trailhawk will be the top-spec model for the most affordable SUV from Jeep. The Compass Trailhawk keeps the regular car's 2.0-litre diesel engine with 168bhp and 360Nm of torque. The major mechanical changes come in the form of a new 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, four-wheel-drive low and four-wheel-lock (high) modes along with an extra Rock mode in Jeep's Selec-Terrain Traction Management System along with heavy-duty suspension, and 20mm raised ride height. Also present are features like hill hold mode and hill descent mode.

5. Hyundai Styx

Expected Launch: Mid 2019

The Hyundai Styx first debuted as the Carlino Concept at Auto Expo 2016. Internally known as the QXi, the final production SUV is expected to bear the name Styx when it arrives at the 2019 New York Motor Show in April. The Hyundai Styx is expected to arrive in India a few months after its world debut. The upcoming Hyundai Styx SUV will be the first car from the Korean carmaker to sport a turbo-petrol engine while running on Indian roads. The 1.0-litre turbo engine is expected to crank out 118bhp while the diesel is expected to be a 1.5-litre turbo unit with 115bhp on tap.

6. Hyundai Kona

Expected Launch: July 2019

The future of cars is electric and SUVs will be leading the charge in India. Hyundai's first foray into electric cars for India will come in the form of the Kona SUV. The Hyundai Kona is expected to arrive in India in July 2019 and will be the first electric SUV to be sold in India. The Kona is powered by a 39kW battery pack that returns a claimed range of 312km. The upcoming SUV from Hyundai can accelerate to 100km/h from standstill in under 10 seconds thanks to the instant availability of the 395Nm of torque on offer.

7. Kia SP

Expected Launch: Mid 2019

At Auto Expo 2018, South Korean carmaker Kia unveiled the SP concept. The production SUV based on the SP concept will be the first car from Kia to hit India's roads. The upcoming SUV from Kia will be manufactured at its Andhra Pradesh production facility. The Kia SP concept-based SUV will be powered by a brace of 1.6-litre engines - one petrol and one diesel. The Kia SUV will be a more premium offering in the segment currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta.

8. MG Hector

Expected Launch - Second Half of 2019

Chinese-owner British automotive marque Morris Garage (MG) will be entering India in 2019 with a full-sized premium SUV that will be called the Hector. The MG Hector will be larger than the new Honda CR-V in size and is expected to draw power from a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine along with a petrol engine developed by MG's owners SIAC. The MG Hector will be followed by an electric SUV that will arrive in 2020.

9. 7-Seater Tata Harrier

Expected Launch: Late 2019

Tata Motors will be launching the 7-seater variant of the Harrier by the end of the year and the extra row of seats is expected to change the silhouette of the large SUV. Along with the extra row of seats, the new 7-seater Harrier is expected to sport a more powerful version of the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Kryotec engine. The engine is expected to be on par with the one on the Jeep Compass which cranks out 173bhp.

10. Renault Duster

Expected Launch: Late 2019

French carmaker Renault unveiled the new-gen Duster nearly two years ago in late 2017. However, Renault will finally bring the all-new Duster to India by the end of the year. The new Duster features an updated design and sits on the same B0 platform as the current Duster. It is also expected to carry over the same set of petrol and diesel engines from the current SUV along with the same transmission offerings as well. The new Renault Duster is also expected to be more feature packed to make it an even more appealing offering for customers.
