The XC40 SUV is available in a single variant, the R-Design trim, at an introductory price of Rs 39.90 lakh, ex-showroom (India). Volvo has already started accepting bookings for the XC40, for an amount of Rs 5 lakh.
The smallest SUV from the Swedish car manufacturer carries forward the company's signature upright design language. Volvo hopes that their new SUV will help provide a good push in terms of sales figures for the company.
The new Volvo XC40 will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. It produces 190bhp and 400Nm of torque. This power is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Exterior features on the new Volvo XC40 include a new distinctive black front grille, updated headlamps with a smoked effect and Thor's hammer LED DRL. The R-Design trim also comes with a dual-tone paint scheme. The XC40 also gets a blackened roof and A-pillars as standard across all colour choices.
Inside, the cabin receives black upholstery with lava carpeting and door inserts. Other standard features on the new Volvo XC40: nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-spoke steering wheel with leather stitching, virtual instrument cluster and a panoramic sunroof.
Safety equipment on the small SUV includes lane keep assist, blind spot warning, pilot assist, emergency braking, traction control, ESP, hill descent control, adaptive cruise control and eight airbags.
Thoughts On The New Volvo XC40
The new Volvo XC40 is the most affordable SUV offering from the Swedish carmaker. The new XC40 takes on the German rivals: BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3 in India.
Volvo expects the new XC40 to be one of the main contributors of sales volume in India. With the new XC40, Volvo hopes to double its market share in India by 2020.
