Volkswagen Polo And Ameo To Get New Petrol Engine — Power And Mileage Revealed
Volkswagen Polo and Ameo to get new petrol engine: Volkswagen is all set to introduce the new 1-litre petrol engine on the Polo hatchback and Ameo compact sedan.
Volkswagen is all set to introduce new petrol engines on the Polo hatchback and Ameo compact sedan. MotorOctane reports that both the Volkswagen Polo and Ameo will get new petrol engines. If you are thinking about more powerful petrol engines, then you will be disappointed by the new engine choice from the German automaker.
Yes, Volkswagen will replace the 1.2-litre petrol engine with the new 1-litre three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 76bhp and 95Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The currently available 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit churns out 74bhp and 110Nm of torque. The drop in the torque might make the Polo and the Ameo even more sluggish.
Volkswagen is banking on the higher fuel efficiency of the new 1-litre petrol engine with a claimed mileage of 18.5kpl on the Polo and 20kpl on the Ameo. The currently sold 1.2-litre engine delivers a mileage of 16.47kpl on the Polo and 17.83kpl on the Ameo. Despite the increase in mileage, being a heavy car, the lack of power will be felt with the new engine.

Instead of downgrading the Polo and Ameo with the 1-litre petrol engine, the German automaker could have opted for the detuned 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine which could improve the performance of both the cars. But the launch timeline of the new 1-litre petrol Polo and Ameo has not been revealed.
The report also states that prices of the Volkswagen Polo and Ameo will remain the same after getting the new 1-litre engine. Currently, the prices for the Polo hatchback start at 5.42 lakh and the prices for the Ameo sedan start at Rs 5.5 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
The Volkswagen Polo and Ameo are also available with the more powerful 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine churning out 90bhp and 230Nm and 108bhp and 250Nm respectively. The GT variant of the Polo is also offered with a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 104bhp and 175N of torque.
DriveSpark's Thoughts On the New Petrol Engine On The Volkswagen Polo And Ameo
Volkswagen has decided to swap the 1.2-litre petrol engine with the new 1-litre unit on the Polo and Ameo to improve the mileage. But it will hamper the performance of the hatchback and sedan. At the same time, the Indian buyers would opt for higher fuel efficiency with the prices of fuel getting higher as the days pass. But the new petrol engine will not impress the customers who were looking for a more powerful petrol unit on both the cars.
