2018 Detroit Auto Show: New Volkswagen Jetta Unveiled.
The all-new Volkswagen Jetta was unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show more known as the Detroit Auto Show. The German carmaker revealed the Jetta which is a lot sharper in style and now is available with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The new Jetta looks a lot more appealing compared to its predecessor and when the sedan comes to India, will be positioned below the Passat. The new Jetta has grown by 43mm in length and 35mm in width to offer improved cabin space. The exterior design is similar to that of the Passat and Golf, while inside, the dashboard is near alike.

The four-bar, full-width grille looks modern and sleek aided by the standard LED lighting, tastefully applied chrome and sharpened character lines. The Jetta is built on Volkswagen's modular MQB architecture that underpins models beginning with the compact Golf to the massive three-row Atlas.

Volkswagen says the new Jetta is more than an inch longer compared to the previous model; however, with shorter overhangs to push the wheels toward the corners for a more muscular look.

Mechanically, the Volkswagen Jetta is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox or new, 8-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels. The new Volkswagen Jetta misses out on the TDI diesel unit but could be offered for the Indian market.

The new Jetta is available with Volkswagen's latest MIB instrument cluster, a 10.2in Active Info Display, along with its dashboard-mounted touchscreen infotainment system. The technology is smartphone connectable, featuring Mirrorlink, Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Top variants of the Jetta get leather heated and cooled seats, advanced safety tech, and a 400-watt BeatsAudio sound system as an option.
