Toyota Yaris Crash Test: Scores 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating
Toyota is all set to launch the Yaris sedan in the Indian market on May 18, 2018. Talking about the safety of the car, the Toyota Yaris has scored an impressive five-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests. The sedan performed exceptionally well in adult and child occupant protection.
ASEAN NCAP tested the Thailand-spec Toyota Yaris which is called as Vios in Thailand. The Thai-spec Yaris is similar to the India-spec model. The Yaris scored an impressive 32.19 points out of 36 points for adult occupant protection. The sedan performed well in both the frontal and side impact test.
Coming to the child occupant protection, the Toyota Yaris scored 42.44 points out of 49 points. The frontal and side impact scored full marks in the child occupant test. For safety assist, the Yaris scored a decent rating of 11 points out of 18 points.
The safety features of the India-spec Toyota Yaris include seven airbags, ABS, EBD and brake assist as standard across all the variants. The top-spec variants of the Toyota Yaris also get safety features such as hill-start assist, vehicle stability control and front and rear parking sensors.
Toyota has already revealed the prices of the Yaris in India. The Toyota Yaris will be priced between Rs 8.75 lakh to Rs 14.07 lakh ex-showroom (India). The Yaris will be offered only with a petrol engine and there will be no diesel engine option.
The Toyota Yaris draws power from a 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine producing 108bhp and 140Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT gearbox. The CVT gearbox is offered across all the trims.
Other prominent features of the Yaris include LED daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels and shark fin antenna. For more details, you can also read our review of the Yaris sedan.
The interior of the Toyota Yaris gets a dual-tone treatment with silver accents, The cabin is equipped with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power driver seat, rear AC vents, ambient lighting, paddle shifters for CVT model, 60:40 split rear seats and cruise control.
Thoughts On The Safety Rating Of Toyota Yaris
The Toyota Yaris will be one of the safest sedans in the Indian market with seven airbags as standard across all the variants. The Yaris also performed well in the adult and child occupant tests. The frontal and side impact tests show that the frame of the Yaris is strong enough to withstand the impact of a crash.
