Car Sales Report India April 2018: The sales report of cars sold in April 2018 has been released. The first month of the 2018-19 fiscal year saw positive results for major automotive companies in India. Maruti still remains as India's favourite car manufacturer; evident from the first five positions acquired by the brand alone.

The Maruti Dzire has come up top as the highest-selling car of April 2018, while the Swift, Baleno, Alto and WagonR follows close.

It is also interesting to see that the very same cars also occupied the first five positions in April 2017.

Hyundai is the second brand which has topped the list with their i20, Grand i10 and the Creta.The i20 has always been a big-seller in the premium hatchback segment and the latest model, launched at Auto Expo 2018, is still going strong on sales.

Mahindra is the third brand to come on the list of Top-Selling Cars Of April 2018. The Mahindra Bolero is one of the best all-purpose SUVs in India and is preferred by a good majority of buyers. The rugged nature and the low-cost maintenance are some of the reasons for its high sales figures.

Further down the ranks, the Tiago is the best-selling Tata product while the Toyota Innova is the most expensive car on the list. While the Kwid is the only car on the list for Renault India, the EcoSport seems to be the best-performer for Ford.

The Tata Nexon, at rank 22, is worth a mention since it is the only new car on the list. While the Hyundai Verna advanced from rank 32 to 23, the Honda City went down from 17 to 24, this year.

While Maruti, Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra saw considerable growth in sales, Ford and Honda have witnessed a decline in the number of vehicles sold. Maruti still leads the way in terms of car sales. Meanwhile, Mahindra has come first in terms of sales-growth percentage.

India's favourite car company has sold 1,72,986 units in April 2018. Out of this, 1,63,434 units account for domestic sales, while the remaining 9,552 are exports. Commercial vehicle sales have seen a massive growth by almost 275 percent from last year. Maruti has sold 1,544 units of their only commercial vehicle, Super Carry.

Same month last year, Maruti Suzuki had sold a total of 1,51,215 units. The growth in sales was recorded to be 14.4 percent.

Hyundai India has sold a total of 59,744 units in the month of April, this year; a growth of six percent from last year's sales figure at 56,368.

At a domestic sales figure of 46,735 units against 44,758 from last year, Hyundai has sold 4.4 percent more cars in India the month before. The Korean brand has exported 13,009 units in April 2018; 12 percent more than last year's 11,610 models.

At a total sales growth of 22 percent, from 39,417 unit last year to 48,097 vehicles in April 2018, Mahindra has recorded the highest rise in products sold.

In the passenger cars segment, the company has sold 21,927 vehicles (13 percent growth) and 18,963 units in the commercial segment (26 percent growth). Meanwhile, exports witnessed a growth of 88 percent at 2,880 units.

Tata Motors has been making some great products over the last few months. This is evident from their sales report which saw a growth of 34 percent in the passenger vehicles segment, in April 2018. The company sold 17,235 units this year compared to last year's 12,827.

With the sales of the Tata Tiago and Nexon still going strong, the company is expecting even more growth in the coming months. In fact, Tata has been selling an average of more than 4,100 units of the Nexon.

Ford has got the title of making some of the best driver's cars in India. However, last month seemed to be a bit dull for the American-origin brand, with a sales drop of almost 40 percent. We hope that the new Ford Freestyle would make up for it.

The brand sold only 15,281 units in April 2018 as opposed to 25,149, same time, last year. Domestic sales dropped by 2.5 percent from 7,428 vehicles to 7,618. Exports have seen the highest drop (at 55 percent), from 17,531 vehicles last year to just 7,853 units last month.

Honda Cars India

Honda Cars India had sold 14,480 units in March 2017. But now in 2018, the company has sold only 9,143 units in the domestic market; a decline of 36.8 percent. There has been a slight increase in the number of exports. Honda sold 452 units to foreign markets in April 2018 compared to 442, last year.

The Honda City still remains as the brand's best-seller, followed by the WR-V.

Thoughts On The Car Sales Report Of April 2018

A vast majority of Indians still prefer Maruti Suzuki over any other brand. From the very first launch of the Maruti 800, the brand has grown a lot in a span of more 30 years. Newer and arguably better products have also been introduced in the market, but Maruti is still going strong in terms of sales.
