Home-grown automaker Tata Motors is all set for the upcoming Auto Expo 2018 and has lined up new products for the Indian market. We have already reported about Tata Motors unveiling the new premium hatchback, SUV and two new vehicles in the commercial vehicle segment. Now more details of the new SUV has been revealed.
GaadiWaadi reports that the upcoming premium SUV from the stable of Tata Motors could be named as Atmos. Internally codenamed as Tata H5, the new SUV has been spotted several times on Indian roads, and the SUV will be based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
The new Tata H5 or the Q501 SUV is expected to be offered in two variants, a five-seater and seven-seater. Both the iterations of the new premium SUV will be underpinned by the Land Rover Discovery Sport's L550 platform. But Tata Motors will tweak the chassis to suit the Indian road conditions.

The Tata H5 SUV is likely to draw power from a Fiat-sourced 2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine churning out 140bhp on the five-seater model and 170bhp on the seven-seater variant. The same engine is also deployed in the Jeep Compass. The base variant of the SUV will be offered with the two-wheel-drive system, and the top-spec trim will be equipped with the four-wheel-drive system.
Apart from the new vehicles, Tata Motors will also reveal the new Impact Design 2.0. The new design language is expected to make its debut with the premium hatchback and the H5 SUV. The teaser images reveal that the new design philosophy will be clean and clutter free with sharp lines.
The Tata H5 SUV could carry a price tag of around Rs 13 lakh for the five-seater variant and Rs 15 lakh for the seven-seater variant. The SUV will also feature a premium interior with the touchscreen infotainment system, Harman audio system and advanced safety features. The cabin is likely to be roomier by going with the prototype models.
DriveSpark's Thoughts On Tata H5 SUV
Tata Motors has been a dominant player in the affordable products segment with models such as Tiago, Nexon, Tigor and the Hexa. Now, the Indian automaker is all set to enter the premium space with its new hatchback and SUV. The Tata H5 SUV looks promising, and we can expect to see the near-production version of the SUV at the Auto Expo 2018. When launched, the Tata H5 or the Atmos will rival the likes of Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV 500 and even the Hyundai Creta.
