Tata H5X Spotted Testing Again — New Exterior Details Revealed
Indian automaker Tata Motors showcased the H5X SUV concept at the Auto Expo 2018. The H5X has been spotted testing several times on Indian roads. Now, the latest images from CarDekho reveals more exterior details of the Tata H5X SUV.
Tata Motors has been testing the H5X SUV for quite some time and the prototype model was finished with heavily camouflaged livery. The pre-production model features temporary headlights and tail lights. But the latest pictures reveal the productions-spec headlamp and tail light cluster.
The rear profile of the Tata H5X features a deep recess under the windshield similar to the concept model. Other new design elements include body cladding, production-spec door handles and rear windshield wiper. Overall, the design looks production-ready.
The Tata H5X is also equipped with five-spoke alloy wheels finished in black colour. The alloy wheels also look like production-spec. The design of the alloy wheels is similar to the ones offered on the entry-level trim of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The overall design of the spotted model looks similar to the concept model.
The Tata H5X is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport's platform but Tata Motors has tweaked the platform to suit the Indian conditions and keep the costs down. The Tata H5X will be offered as a five-seater SUV while a seven-seater variant is also expected to be launched.
The Tata H5X is expected to draw power from a Fiat-sourced 2-litre diesel engine churning out around 140-170bhp. The engine will be coupled to a ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Jeep Compass also utilises the same engine. Tata Motors might also introduce the petrol variant of the SUV at a later stage.
Thoughts On The Tata H5X SUV
The H5X will be a premium SUV from the stable of Tata Motors. The H5X will also debut the Impact Design 2.0 design philosophy. The Tata H5X SUV is likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2019. The Tata H5X will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and even the entry-level variant of the Jeep Compass.
