Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the refreshed Wagon R in India later this year. Ahead of its launch, the carmaker is testing the tall boy hatchback extensively in India. Rushlane has spotted the new Maruti Wagon R 2018 without camouflage for the first time in India. The most significant aspect of the next-generation Maruti Wagon R is a new feature 'Idling Stop' badging on the tailgate of the new Wagon R, to increase the fuel efficiency of the car.
The all-new Maruti Wagon R is expected to be based on Suzuki's new HEARTECT platform, which underpins the new Maruti Swift 2018 and the new Dzire compact sedan. The spy pictures of the new Wagon R reveal new wraparound headlights, three-slate chrome grille housing the Suzuki logo, four-slated air-dam, steel wheels, while the rear section is refreshed and features LED lightings for the taillights.
The next-generation Maruti Wagon R looks sleek and sharper than the previous generation model, which is expected to boast of premium features inside. We expect Maruti to equip the new Wagon R with touchscreen infotainment system, while dual front airbags and ABS will come as a standard fitment.

Based on the new HEARTECT platform the all-new Wagon R is expected to be roomier and offer better ride and handling compared to the previous model. Apart from these features, Maruti is expected to provide a high level of equipment in the new Wagon R as the hatchback is one of the longest and best-selling cars for the carmaker in India.
Presently, Maruti Suzuki has powered the Wagon R with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine which churns out 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The carmaker is expected to offer the same engine in the new-generation Maruti Wagon R, but the unit is expected to be BS VI complaint and a lot safer than the previous model.
