2018 Jeep Wrangler Spotted Testing In India
American automaker Jeep has been testing the new fourth-gen Wrangler in India for quite some time. Now, TeamBHP has spotted the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL two-door model being tested on Indian roads. The 2018 Wrangler is tested by ARAI, which means that the two-door Jeep Wrangler will be launched soon in the country.
The fleet of test mules included two hardtop Wranglers and one hardtop Rubicon model. The spotted model sports an Overland badging and it is likely to be the Sahara trim with the export-spec Overland pack. The Overland pack improves the cosmetic aesthetics of the Wrangler.
The Jeep Wrangler with Overland pack comes with body colour grille, headlamp bezels, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, body colour spare tyre cover and Overland badging. On the interior, the SUV features an all-black theme with leather seats and dashboard. The spotted model is an automatic variant.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL draws power from a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing 197bhp and 450Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Wrangler JL Sahara trim also features a Command-Trac 4x4 system with a part-time, two-speed transfer case with a low-range gear ratio.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is also offered with a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 2-litre four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. The 3.6-litre engine churns out 280bhp and 347Nm of torque while the 2-litre unit is good for 268bhp and 400Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The report also states that the Wrangler Rubicon variant is also on test. The Rubicon variant of the Wrangler features off-roading capabilities with Roc-Track 4x4 system with the 2-speed transfer case. It also gets heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles and Tru-Lok electric front- and rear-axle lockers.
The interior of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL features an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, 7-inch LED driver information display and leather seat upholstery.
Thoughts On The 2018 Jeep Wrangler
Jeep has been testing the new Wrangler for quite some time on Indian roads. Now, the two-door Wrangler JL has been spotted undergoing ARAI testing. This means that the launch is close by. We can expect the new Jeep Wrangler in the fourth quarter of 2018. As compared to the current gen model, the new Wrangler could be locally assembled.
