New Hyundai Santro To Get CNG Variant — More Details Revealed
Hyundai is gearing up for the launch of its new small family car which is codenamed as AH2. The new small hatchback is expected to revive the Santro moniker in the country. Hyundai has also revealed the first sketch of the hatchback and now more details of the new Santro has been revealed.
MD and CEO of Hyundai India, YK Koo has stated that the upcoming AH2 hatchback will be wider and taller than the i10. This indicates that the new hatchback will feature a tall boy design. The first sketch of the AH2 reveals that the car will feature a sharp design with a slightly sloping roof design.
The new Hyundai Santro will be based on the slightly revamped HA platform of the i10. The new Santro or the AH2 will draw power from a new 1.1-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. But the power figures might be improved on the new Santro.
Hyundai might also offer the 1.2-litre Kappa series engine on the top-spec variants of the hatchback. The new Santro is also expected to get an AMT gearbox. But the prominent highlight is that the hatchback will also come with factory-fitted LPG kit. The LPG option on the new Santro will certainly attract more buyers.
The interior of the new AH2 hatchback is likely to be based on the interior of the Grand i10. The new Santro is also said to feature improved headroom and shoulder room as it will be a wider and taller car than the old i10. If the reports are to be believed, Hyundai might also integrate the gear lever into the dashboard to improve space.
Overall, the new Hyundai Santro will be a modern car with all the essential features. Hyundai has also started the naming campaign for the AH2 and the Santro moniker might also get a prefix. But, if Hyundai revives the Santro brand, it will attract a lot of buyers due to the cult following for Santro in India.
Thoughts On The New Hyundai Santro
Hyundai is readying the new small family hatchback which is expected to be the new Santro. The new Santro will replace the Eon which is not selling in good numbers. The new AH2 hatchback will rival the likes of Maruti Alto K10, Renault Kwid and the Tata Tiago. Expect the AH2 to be launched in India during this year's festive season.
