Mahindra's new compact SUV codenamed the S201, has been spotted testing in its near-production form in India. The new compact SUV from Mahindra is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli.
Under development for a while now, the S201 has been spotted testing several times in the past. The new spy images from Team-BHP, suggest that the new SUV from Mahindra will be ready for a 2018 launch.
The spy images showcasea completely camouflaged version of the S201 SUV, yet wearing the production-ready body panels, ORVMs, roof rails and alloy wheels. The image also reveals a much sleeker LED taillamps, while also receiving blacked out alloy wheels and a roof-mounted spoiler with integrated LED brake lights.
The front of the S201 SUV will be expected to receive projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), a new masculine front bumper with a large chrome grille. This heavily redesigned front will help differentiate the compact Mahindra SUV from its South-Korean counterpart.
The compact S201 SUV will first arrive as a five-seater variant, followed by a seven-seater version in the future. The SUV can be expected to feature premium quality interiors with an updated touchscreen infotainment system likely to be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features also include rain-sensing wipers and a sunroof.
The new Mahindra compact SUV will carry forward the same, 1.2-litre G80 petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 108bhp and 98 bhp respectively.
Mahindra has been developing two new engines as well; a 1.6-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol engine which could make its way onto the SUV.
The power units on the new compact SUV will be mated to a five-speed manual with the possible option of an automatic transmission.
