CES 2018: Kia Niro EV Concept Revealed
South Korean automaker Kia has revealed the Niro EV Concept electric compact SUV at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
South Korean automaker Kia has revealed the Niro EV Concept electric compact SUV at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Kia Niro EV Concept has an impressive driving range of 383km on a single charge, and the electric SUV will go on sale by early next year.
The overall design of the Niro EV Concept is the evolution of the currently sold Niro with the aerodynamic exterior design. The front fascia of the concept model features redesigned headlamps, and an interactive display replaces the conventional radiator grille, which is not required for an EV.

The side profile of the Niro EV Concept sports aerodynamic design and gloss black lower body kit. The rear of the electric SUV features sleek LED tail lights, curved tailgate and a large Niro EV branding on the bumper which highlights the electric powertrain of the vehicle.
The Niro EV Concept is equipped with the new Human Machine Interface (HMI) which is said to be the ‘beyond autonomous' driving technology. The interior of the electric SUV features infotainment system, switchgear, interactive lighting and a new digital instrument cluster.
The concept model also gets 'Active Pedestrian Warning System' which detects pedestrians or cyclists and warns the driver. Niro EV Concept also features sound separation control system, which enables front and rear passengers to listen to different music at the same time.
The Kia Niro EV Concept is equipped with an electric motor producing 201bhp which draws power from a 64kWh battery pack. Kia claims a driving range of 383km which is expected to be increased to over 480km as the battery technology improves. Kia has not revealed the performance figures of the electric SUV.
The Kia Niro EV Concept is said to be the near-production version of company's future model which is part of Kia's plan to introduce 16 electrified vehicles by 2025. Kia has also debuted the world's first in-car 5G connection which is displayed on a second cockpit on Kia's stand at CES.
