Ford EcoSport Recalled In India Over PCM Issue — 7249 Models Affected

As per reports, these units of the Ford EcoSport have a faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Luckily, the problem requires only a minor software update to be solved. If not checked, the affected Ford EcoSport models might show malfunctions such as rapid battery drainage and sudden deceleration.

Ford India has already started contacting the customers via email or a letter. Though a bit frustrating, all the owners of the affected vehicles will soon be in touch with their Ford dealership to go forward with the recall.

Those who doubt if their vehicles are also affected can check the same on the Ford India website. They just need to enter their 17-character VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

The Ford EcoSport petrol in question is powered by a 1.5-litre Dragon series three-cylinder engine which makes 121bhp and 150Nm of torque. The engine is available mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, Ford recently launched a more fun EcoSport S variant. It comes powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine which makes 123bhp and 170Nm of torque. The engine is available mated only to a 6-speed manual.

Thoughts On The Ford EcoSport Recall

Recalls are not an unusual process in the automotive industry. When manufacturers find out that some of their products could develop faults in the future, they immediately conduct a recall wherein the issue is fixed free of cost. As for this particular batch of the EcoSport, the issue is relatively small and won't be time-consuming to fix.
