Current-Gen Maruti Ertiga Will Not Be Discontinued In India — Here’s Why
India's leading automaker Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce the new second-gen Ertiga in the country. The Maruti Ertiga facelift features a revamped design and comes loaded with new features. Now, Gaadiwaadi reports that the current-gen Ertiga will not be discontinued in India even after the launch of the new Ertiga.
Yes, the currently sold Ertiga will be sold as Ertiga Tour similar to the Dzire Tour. The Dzire Tour is a popular model among the cab operators and Maruti Suzuki is trying to achieve the same results with the Ertiga Tour. MPVs are becoming extremely popular among cab aggregators and the Ertiga Tour could be a hit in the country.
The report states that the cab-only Ertiga will be based on the entry-level variant and it will feature the same 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine. The 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine produces 94bhp and 130Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The diesel variant of the Maruti Ertiga Tour will draw power from a 1.3-litre diesel engine churning out 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. The diesel engine also gets SHVS technology (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) which improves the fuel efficiency. ABS and dual-airbags might be offered as standard safety features.
Coming new Ertiga, the second-gen MPV is based on the lighter HEARTECT platform similar to the new Swift. The Ertiga facelift also features a revamped design with a more premium touch. The new Ertiga also comes loaded with a host of new features. The new-gen Ertiga has also grown in dimensions and it is longer, wider and taller than the current model.
The 2018 Maruti Ertiga is likely to get a bigger 1,5-litre petrol engine producing 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel engine will be the same 1.3-litre unit with SHVS technology.
Thoughts On The Maruti Ertiga Tour
Maruti Suzuki will not discontinue the currently sold Ertiga even after the new Ertiga is launched in the country. The current-gen Ertiga will be launched as a cab-only model which will be based on the entry-level trim of the MPV. The new second-gen Ertiga will be a more premium product and will be slightly expensive than the currently sold model.
