BMW 6 Series GT Launched in Bangalore. The new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo replaces the 5 Series GT in BMW's lineup in India. Read for BMW 6 Series GT key specs, features and images.
BMW 6-Series GT launched in Bangalore. After launching the first-ever 6-Series GT at the Indian Auto Expo 2018 in Delhi on Feb 07, BMW India has now launched the 6-Series GT in Bangalore at a price of Rs 58.90 Lakh.
While the BMW 6-Series GT was unveiled at the Auto Expo by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the Bangalore launch happened at a gala event with live orchestra performances. BMW India certainly launched the 6 GT in style.
Launched in just one variant - the 630i, the 6-Series GT replaces the 5-Series GT in the German manufacturer's Indian line-up.
BMW 6-Series GT Design
Design-wise, the new BMW 6-Series GT is based on the 5-Series and hence the resemblance can be seen. A few design cues including the adaptive LED headlights have been borrowed from the 5-Series sedan.
With the roof flowing into the boot lid, the overall profile has changed as the GT now takes a more coupe-ish approach to design.
BMW 6-Series GT Interior
The interior of the BMW 6-Series is decked with leather upholstery. A 10.25-inch touchscreen display with gesture controls takes care of infotainment needs. The sound from the infotainment system is produced through a 1,400 watt, 16-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.
Other features inside the 630i GT includes a head-up display, four-zone automatic climate control, LED mood lighting, etc.
BMW 6-Series GT Engine
A turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine powers the BMW 630i GT. The 1,998cc engine produces a maximum power figure of 254bhp @ 5,000-6,500rpm and a peak torque figure of 400Nm @ 1,550-4,400rpm.
BMW 6-Series GT Performance
An eight-speed automatic gearbox does transmission duties and sends power to the rear wheels. Performance is pretty sporty with the GT sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 6.3 seconds and it will eventually top out at 250km/h.
BMW 6-Series GT Dimensions
The new BMW 6 Series GT measures 5,091mm long, 1,902mm wide, 1,538mm tall and has a wheelbase of 3,070mm. The boot has a storage capacity of 600 litres which can be expanded to 1800 litres by folding down the rear seats.
The BMW 630i GT will compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class long-wheelbase variant in India.
Thoughts On The New BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo
The BMW 6-Series GT is a rather niche product for BMW India and sits in a unique position. It offers the style and comfort of the 5-Series sedan with more practicality because of the added space in the backside.
The side-effect of the added practicality is the rather quirky coupe-sedan mashup design. While this design will attract younger buyers, older customers will flock to the 5-Series.
