The year 2017 was a memorable year for the Indian automotive industry with several new car launches, but they were restricted to facelifts or special edition versions of entry-level and hatchbacks. However, in 2018, there are new cars launching in India which are affordable as well as pratical.
Here is the list of affordable cars launching in India during 2018:
2018 Hyundai Santro
The Santro name is making a comeback to India. Hyundai has been testing the new Santro several times in the country even as it looks to launch the Santro in 2018. The all-new Hyundai Santro is expected to feature some of the best technologies such as touchscreen infotainment system as well as new safety features.
The company has not revealed the details of the engine specifications of the new Santro, although we expect it to be powered by an 800cc engine and will be available in both manual and automatic gearbox.
Expected Launch: Mid-2018
Expected Price: Rs 3.5 Lakh to Rs 4.5 Lakh
Datsun Redi-GO AMT
Datsun Redi-GO is available in 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre engine configuration; however, it misses out on the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) gearbox option. Datsun will add the AMT variant to the Redi-GO, making it one of the cheapest AMT cars in India.
The AMT gearbox which does its duties in the Renault Kwid will be mated to the 1.0-litre unit of the Redi-Go hatchback.

Next-Gen Maruti Suzuki Alto
India's highest selling hatchback Maruti Alto will be replaced by the next-generation model this year. The Renault Kwid rivalling Alto is reported to borrow most of the design language of Ignis departing from the current model's styling.
The new-generation Maruti Alto is expected to be offered with standard fitment of dual airbags and ABS with EBD. The new Alto will get Maruti's current 800cc petrol and the 1.0-litre K-series petrol unit.
Expected Launch: Mid-2018
Expected Price: Rs 2.5 Lakh to Rs 3.5 Lakh
2018 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
The humble Maruti Wagon R will be refreshed, and the 2018 model is expected to be launched in the country soon. The boxy looking hatchback took sometime before car buyers in India accepted it. But with its practicality and its vast cabin space, the Wagon R continues to be the most preferred hatchback among car buyers in India.
The new Maruti Wagon R is expected to look the same as the current model with its tall boy design but will be loaded with upmarket features such as touchscreen infotainment system, safety features such as dual airbags and ABS as standard fitment across variants.

Next-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift
The most-loved hatchback in India, the Maruti Swift has impressed many, now, Maruti will launch the next-generation Swift in India. The new Swift is based on a new platform making Swift lighter and spacious compared to the outgoing model. The new Swift stands out with its unique hexagonal grille and projector headlamps and the floating roof design.
Mechanically, Maruti will employ the existing 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel engine which does its duties on the current Swift.

Datsun has officially announced that the production version of the Go Cross will be unveiled on January 18, 2018. The concept was showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, and it surprised many with its sporty and sharp design language. The production version is expected to retain most of the styling of the concept.
The Datsun Cross is based on the Go hatchback and will share most of its components from the latter, but with higher ground clearance, plastic body cladding, sporty alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights.

Ford Figo Cross
The Ford Figo is a capable and sturdy hatchback powered by a frugal engine; however, the styling was to the liking of car buyers in India. Ford has decided to bring the crossover version of the Figo with subtle changes to the exterior and interior.
Like all other crossovers, the Ford Cross hatchback will feature body cladding, faux skid plates at the front and rear, higher ground clearance (185mm), and premium features.
Expected Launch: February - March 2018
Expected Price: Rs 5.5 Lakh to Rs 6.5 Lakh
The Indian auto industry has evolved, and car buyers are more keen on feature-rich hatchbacks and SUVs. The list of upcoming affordable cars launching in 2018 does emphasise that car makers are listening to requirements and tastes of buyers in India and readying cars attuned to their needs.
