Volvo might shift sourcing non-automotive engines to India on a long-term basis. The country is already a manufacturing hub for the 5 to 8-litre medium-duty Euro VI engines used for automotive applications.

Managing Director of VE Commercial Vehicles, Vinod Aggarwal confirmed the development. Speaking to ET Auto, he said, "Gradually, we will cater to more applications for non-automotive. We will get into gen-sets. There are also some other non-automotive departments like
construction equipment."
VE Powertrain, one of the business verticals of VE Commercial Vehicles, exports 2,000 engines every month to Volvo AB for automotive applications. A separate production line has been set up at Pithampur to produce Volvo Penta engines.

The 5-litre and 8-litre engines are BS-III compliant. Both the engines can be used in a variety of applications such as construction equipment, crushers and screeners, agricultural and forestry machinery and pumps and cranes.
DriveSpark Thinks!
India is becoming a manufacturing hub for several global automakers. It is in line with the Make in India campaign and helps to increase the employment opportunities in the country. It is good to see global manufacturers betting high on the Indian market.
