2018 Volkswagen Virtus Revealed
German car manufacturer Volkswagen revealed Polo-based sedan Virtus in Brazil. The newly developed compact sedan Virtus offers the latest features and is based on the company's innovative MQB (AO) flexible platform which underpins the 2018 Volkswagen Polo.

The Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB) platform aids in a spacious interior with a slightlylonger wheelbase of 2,650mm, the Virtus is quite roomy to seat five adults, and with a capacity of 521-litres, it also boasts one of the largest cargo spaces in its class.

The MQB platform has set the pace for the carmaker to launch the next-generation of mass-market cars around the globe. The new Virtus is the third model after the new Polo and the Golf to be underpinned by the new-generation chassis.

Talking about the new Virtus sedan, the styling, and the front doors are similar to the next-generation Polo hatchback, but with a longer wheelbase, the rear doors of the Virtus are slightly larger. The Virtus gets a sloping roofline and at the rear are the slightly wraparound taillights.

Also, the VW Virtus's bumpers are unique with notable creases along with subtle chrome accents and prominent fog lamp housing and reflectors at the front and rear, respectively. Inside the new Virtus, the sedan features modern and high-tech dashboard with dual digital screens on the top variant.

The Brazil-spec Volkswagen Virtus comes with two engines: a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit producing 115bhp and 162Nm of torque, and a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine developing 126bhp and 200Nm of torque. While the 1.6 engine is paired to a 5-speed automatic gearbox, the turbo-petrol is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

DriveSpark Thinks!
The new Volkswagen Virtus benefits from the new MQB platform and offers premium features and enhanced cabin room. While there is no official confirmation if the newly revealed Virtua will make it to the Indian shores, the Virtus does look promising for India.
While the MQB platform will result in a pricier car in India, Skoda, subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, is developing a low-cost Eco platform that is based on MQB for emerging markets including India; this new platform is expected to underpin cars for India.
