Volkswagen introduced the Polo GTI to India as a Limited Edition model with only 99 units allotted for the Indian market. The German carmaker is reportedly clearing stocks of the Polo GTI and is being sold at a discounted price of Rs 19.99 lakh ex-showroom.
The three-door hatchback was launched in India with a price tag of Rs 25.99 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi) in November 2016.
A report by Team-BHP reveals that Mumbai dealers are offering a discount on the Polo GTI in a bid to clear inventory. The Polo GTI rivals the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione and Mini Cooper S has found few takers for the powerful iteration of the Polo hatchback.
Powering the Volkswagen Polo GTI is the 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI mill churning out 189bhp and 250Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed automatic DSG gearbox. The Polo GTI is claimed to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 233km/h.
Up front, the Polo GTI features a specially designed bumper with integrated spoiler lip and fog lights comes as standard fitment. At the rear, the hot hatch wears a large roof spoiler in high-gloss black, a diffuser in the bumper, GTI-specific dual tailpipes, LED tail lights and the GTI badge.
The Polo GTI boasts of six airbags, ABS and electronic stability control along with driver steering recommendation. Other features include Hill Start Assist, cruise control, cooled glove box, infotainment system with Aux, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and six speakers.
With the prices reduced by Rs 6 lakh, will the Volkswagen Polo GTI sell in India? With the discounted price tag of Rs 19.99 lakh ex-showroom, we feel India is not yet ready for performance hatch with a bigger price tag.
