Volkswagen Golf GTI First Decade Concept Revealed — The First Electrified GTI

Volkswagen has reveled the Golf GTi First Decade concept at the Worthsee festival

German carmaker Volkswagen has revealed the one-off Golf GTI First Decade concept at the annual 'Worthersee GTI treffen' (Wörthersee GTI meeting) in the lakeside town of Reifnitz, Austria.

The reason for the First Decade in the name is the fact that the concept car is the 10th Golf GTI in a row to be revamped by the VW's apprentices and shown off at the Worthsee meeting.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI First Decade Concept is powered by the regular GTI's turbocharged petrol engine that has been fettled with so it now produces 404bhp which is sent to the front wheels.

Assisting the internal combustion engine is a 16bhp electric motor which is strapped to the rear axle of the Golf GTI.

The battery powering the motor is recharged by regen braking and the GTI First Decade can run on electric power alone for short distances.

The Golf GTI First Decade can be set to be front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive via a tablet or by a smartphone app displayed on the in-car infotainment system.

The concept car features a vivid dark blue livery with lighter blue stripes along with 10 and First decade decals and badges that indicate this is the 10th Worthersee meeting from the VW.

The Golf GTI first decade also sports a spoiler from the GTI Clubsport and sits on 20-inch mb-Design alloy wheels.

Inside, the Golf GTI First Decade sports only two seats which feature massage function and can be adjusted electrically. The rear seats and parcel shelf have made way for a 1,690-watt sound system with 11 speakers that will please audiophiles everywhere.

Volkswagen has used the Worthsee show over the years to present some rather outrageous concepts including the GTI W12 which was powered by the Bentley Continental's twin-turbocharged, 650bhp W12 engine.
