Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is making it easier to access information on car and bike recall data. The automotive body which represents the Indian Automobile Industry has decided to publish information or data of all vehicles that have been recalled in India on its website.
The data is available to everyone, and it includes information such as the reason for recall, recall date, model, manufactured date, number of vehicles recalled among others. All recall data by carmakers since October 2012 is available online. You can head to SIAM's official website to access recall-related information.
There are two benefits of the online recall data by SIAM. First-time buyers can check if they have missed any recall and can get their vehicle checked and fixed.
Also, used car buyers can check if the car they are buying has had any history of recall and check with the manufacturer if the particular vehicle issue has been fixed. If not rectified, one can either get it fixed if the first owner has not rectified, additionally, the second owner can check the car condition before buying the used car.
SIAM has a voluntary recall policy where car manufacturers are expected to recall cars with manufacturing defect to ensure the safety of passengers. The reason behind the voluntary recall is to avoid any potential danger of accidents due to any manufacturing defect. Carmakers are expected to fix the issue at no cost to the customers.
The SIAM voluntary policy applies to only the first seven years of the vehicle's life, and most of the time the first owner gets the notification of a recall.
As mentioned above, the SIAM recall data will help identify any voluntary recall by car manufacturers. Also, it will help used car buyer to be aware of the history of the vehicle.
