The compact SUV segment in India is getting increasingly competitive with carmakers developing and designing vehicles exclusively for the Indian market. Carmakers price their models competitively, offer SUV styling all the while offering the ride and handling of a sedan.
Here is the list of upcoming compact SUVs with their key specifications, features, expected price and launch date, to help you understand more about the models that will enter India soon.
Tata Motors has unveiled the Nexon compact SUV, and the most exciting information is that Tata has kept most of the styling of the concept in the production version. The concept was first showcased in 2014 Auto Expo held in Delhi, and it immediately took everyone by surprise with its design and styling.
The Tata Nexon will rival the likes of Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300 in India. The company will equip the Nexon with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit.
Both the engines will come paired to a newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox, and the AMT is expected to be launched in 2018.

Expected Price: Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh
Ford was the first carmaker to launch a sub compact SUV in India with the EcoSport. The EcoSport is agile, easy to handle and ride and is the only sub compact SUV which offers six-airbags.
With other carmakers launching their iteration of sub compact SUVs like the Maruti Brezza and Mahindra TUV 300, Ford has lost the edge. But the carmaker is all set to launch the facelifted EcoSport in India to put some life into its sub compact SUV offering.
The Ford EcoSport facelift will come with new fascia with larger headlamps; the front grille is now integrated compared to the split grille of the current model. But most of the changes are inside the cabin with new touchscreen infotainment system and will connect to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Engine specifications are expected to remain the same, but there are reports on the web that Ford might introduce a new Dragon petrol engine.
Expected Launch: September - October 2017
Expected Price: Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh
Renault introduced us to Duster, which took many SUV enthusiasts by surprise with its dynamic ride and handling. Now, the French carmaker wants to offer a new SUV, the Kaptur.
Known globally as the Captur, Renault is looking to position the Kaptur above the Duster and will compete with Mahindra XUV500 and the higher variants of the Hyundai Creta. Also, it could even compete with the entry level of the Jeep Compass.
The Renault Kaptur will boast of premium features and will share the platform and engines from Duster SUV. Apart from premium features inside the cabin, the Kaptur is expected to be offered with a new 2.0-litre engine.

Expected Price: Rs 15 lakh to Rs 18 lakh
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
Yes, you might be wondering why a crossover is on this list of upcoming compact SUVs in India. Well, Maruti has introduced the S-Cross in India to cater to buyers who prefer a sedan but with an SUV stance.
Additionally, the Maruti S-Cross offered premium features and is equipped with a powerful engine. The upcoming Maruti S-Cross is the facelift model of the current model. The Maruti S-Cross facelift features a new nose, and the car looks a lot more SUVish.
The front grille is more upright compared to the dropped down design of the current model and to the buyers liking, the chrome surrounds on grille looks premium. Also, the new bonnet is butch and muscular. The S-Cross facelift model will continue to draw power from the 1.3- and 1.6-litre diesel engines and Maruti could offer the 110bhp Boosterjet engine, and CVT could be offered as well.

Apart from this list of upcoming compact SUVs in India, there is also the Mahindra KUV100, which is more fits the term micro SUV than a compact SUV. Mahindra is testing a facelifted KUV100 and is expected to be launched in 2018.
Hyundai, Datsun and Mahindra are also working on compact SUVs for the Indian market though they are expected to be launched in 2018.
