Make In US Or Pay Border Tax — Donald Trump To Chevrolet
Donald Trump has asked Chevrolet to make the Cruze sedans in the US, or pay hefty border taxes. Ford has also undergone something similar.
Carmakers are coming under Donald Trump's firing range for making cars outside the US. Ford recently sacked a .6 billion factory deal in Mexico after receiving huge criticism from the President Elect, and now it's Chevrolet's turn.
Chevrolet has been instructed to make cars in the US or pay border tax by Donald Trump. The message was sent via a tweet on the popular social media network.
Trump, on 3 January 2016 tweeted: General Motors is sending Mexican made model of Chevy Cruze to US car dealers-tax free across border. Make in USA or pay big border tax!
Donald Trump has threatened to impose huge border taxes for making the Chevrolet Cruze in Mexico and selling the car in the US. The tweet could mean that Chevrolet has to move production back to the US or pay taxes for foreign made products.
Chevrolet, on the other hand has said that the Cruze models sold in the US are made in the country itself, in Ohio. The mexican made Cruze are the ones being sold to other countries around the globe, while only a small number of the cars make their way to the US.
Trump's tweets have not only targeted Ford and Chevrolet to make cars in US, but also retailers like Amazon, Boeing, and Macy's.
