Toyota To Introduce Yaris Ativ To Replace Etios In India
Toyota will introduce the new Yaris Ativ in the Indian market to replace the Etios.
Japanese automaker Toyota is expected to introduce a new sedan to replace the Etios in the Indian market.
HinduBusinessline reports that Toyota will launch the new Yaris Ativ sedan in India to replace the Etios. The report also states that Toyota will not develop a second-generation Etios as the car will be phased out by 2020.

In India, the Toyota Etios is losing its popularity to several new compact sedans. So, Toyota needs to introduce something new in the sedan segment. Currently, there is no other product in the mid-size sedan segment, so the automaker has only one option, that is the Yaris Ativ.

The report also suggests that Toyota will not introduce the Vios sedan in India. Toyota retails the Yaris Ativ in Thailand as an affordable alternative to the Nissan Sunny, Honda City and Suzuki Ciaz.

If the same strategy is followed in India, Toyota has a good chance to attract sedan buyers in the country. The Yaris Ative is a good looking sedan and loaded with features which are missing in the Etios.

In Thailand, the Yaris Ativ draws power from a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 86bhp and 108Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. The smaller engine also gives an option for Toyota to shorten the sedan to market it as a compact sedan in India.

The Yaris Ativ is a mid-size sedan and with its new design and features, it will be a good product for the Indian market. If at all the Yaris Ativ is launched in India, it will rival the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
