Toyota Vios India Launch Details Revealed — All You Need To Know About The City & Verna Rival
Toyota Vios Sedan India Launch Details Revealed
Toyota is gearing up to launch the Vios sedan in India locking horns with the well-established players like the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.
With the launch slated for mid-2018, Autocar India reveals that the Toyota is working hard to launch the sedan by Diwali 2018. Also, the company wants to offer a sedan which is priced competitively in the market. Therefore, it's looking to localise the car to the maximum to be competitive against its competitors.
Apart from the Innova and the Fortuner, Toyota has not been successful in other segments especially the executive sedan segment save for the erstwhile Corolla. With the new Toyota Vios, the company wants to offer a premium yet with all the DNA of Toyota built into the sedan.
Does the Toyota Vios have all the elements to make it a success in India? We explore some of the essential aspects such as design, features, specs and expected price range to understand about the upcoming sedan.
Design
The Toyota Vios is a fresh breath of air among the sedan and hatchback lineup of Toyota in India. The Etios and Etios Liva are boxy and more serious looking cars and lacked the character that we Indian love so much - luxurious, fully-loaded, road presence and fuel efficient.
Up front, the Toyota Vios looks sharp and aggressive, especially the headlamp and grille are modern and are in line with the current Toyota's design language for its cars. The air intakes are sporty with their large anvil-shaped design, which is finished tastefully in black.

The prominent crease lines run smoothly from the front wheel arch to the rear section of the sedan. At the rear, the boot is large, but not disproportionate. There are several inserts at the bottom of the bumper give the Vios a chunky outlook.
While the Vios measures 4,420mm in length and it sits on a shorter wheelbase compared to the Honda City, the sedan is wider like the Etios, offering a better cabin space.
Step inside the Toyota Vios, the approach is modern and stylish but lacks the quality that the City boasts off. Toyota will have to offer better interiors to keep up with its rivals in the market.
Features
The Malaysian-spec Toyota Vios gets projector headlamps; bumper mounted LED daytime running lights, electrically operated ORVMs, DVD Player with 7" Touch Screen system with Radio, MP3, AUX-Jack, USB, Bluetooth connectivity and even a Reverse Camera.
The Vios does boast of all the premium features required in a sedan in India and Toyota will look to offer most of these features in the India-spec Vios.
Specifications
The India-spec Toyota Vios is expected to be powered the 1.5-litre petrol engine that is currently on sale in India. The DOHC 16-valve unit and produces 107bhp of power and comes mated to a manual or a CVT gearbox.
There is also a diesel engine on offer. Toyota is expected to employ a new 1.4-litre unit that can develop 87bhp and will be offered with either a manual or a CVT gearbox.
Price
Toyota will position the Vios in the competitive executive sedan segment which is led by Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Also, there is the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento to compete as well. We expect the price of the Toyota Vios in India to be in the range of Rs 7 lakh going up to Rs 11 lakh for the top-trim model.
DriveSpark Thinks!
The design and the style of the Toyota Vios do move away from the dull looking Etios sedan on sale in India, and the sedan seems like a promising product for the Japanese carmaker. That said, the segment is finding hard keep pace with the compact SUV segment, and Toyota will have to compete with the smaller SUVs as well.
