Toyota Innova Records Highest Turnover In The Indian Passenger Vehicle Market
The most popular MPV in India, the Innova has recorded a highest gross turnover for any car manufacturer in the country.
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota's Indian wing Toyota Kirloskar Motor might have a modest market share in the small car market. But it is a strong player in the bigger utility vehicle segment.
The most popular MPV in India, the Innova has recorded a turnover of over $2.4 billion to Toyota's total turnover in 2016. This is the highest by any car manufacturer in India.
Company's muscular SUV, the Fortuner also performed well in the market and the SUV recorded a turnover of $500 million last year. Toyota sold 81,000 units of Innova and Fortuner in 2016.
An interesting fact is the new 2017 Fortuner was launched a day ahead of the demonetisation, but the SUV is performing really well in the market and has received over 10,000 bookings.
Senior Vice-President, Marketing and Sales, Toyota Kirloskar, N Raja said, "Considering the price segment, sales of 60,000 units in just eight months is a big milestone for both Fortuner and Innova. Against the backdrop of diesel ban and demonetisation."
The Innova has got such a value in the Indian market that 47 percent of the buyers in 2016 were already owning the popular MPV. Despite the diesel ban and demonetisation Toyota managed to record healthy sales figures.
Auto experts have stated that Toyota has gradually built its leadership position in the utility vehicle segment and made Innova a top brand, similar to its market rival Maruti Suzuki.
