Stunning Toyota C-HR Set To Enter India — Is This Your Future SUV?

According to a report in Autocar India, the radical new C-HR (short for Coupé High Rider) will enter India by mid-2018 and will take on the likes of the top-spec Creta and the Tucson when it enters India. Prices for the C-HR are expected to start at around Rs 15 lakh.

The C-HR is based on Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA) which also underpins the new Prius. The new C-HR may very well be the first car based on the carmaker's new architecture to be produced in India.

Powering the C-HR crossover are a set of four-cylinder petrol engines - a turbocharged 1.2-litre and three naturally aspirated engines displacing 1.5, 1.8, and 2.0-litres. The 1.8-litre engine along with an electric motor power the hybrid variant of the C-HR and all four engines are mated a 6-speed CVT automatic gearbox.

While the lack of a diesel engine may worry some, the stunning looks of the new C-HR could very well draw in a younger crowd towards Toyota in India.

The C-HR may be an SUV but its coupe-like exterior design and its futuristic interior really set it apart from any Toyota currently running about on Indian roads.

The C-HR is quite unlike any SUV we have on Indian roads today. With its coupe-like design and futuristic interior, it could very well prove to be another blockbuster sales hit for Toyota in India.
