Maruti Suzuki is all set to showcase the next-generation Swift hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi and is slated for a launch during festive season later that year.

Ahead of its reveal in India, the hatchback's sales are decreasing, and we could very well say that the next-generation Swift could be the reason. Here are the top 10 selling cars in October 2017 which reveals the sales of passenger cars in India and how every car manufacturer has performed.

India's largest car manufacturer continues to dominate the table with seven of its cars in the list except for three cars from Hyundai. The Maruti Alto has taken back the top slot from the Maruti Dzire sub-compact sedan as the top-selling passenger vehicle (PV) in October 2017.

In the third position is the Maruti Baleno with Hyundai's Grand i10 and Maruti WagonR taking the next two position. Maruti has three more models on the list including the Celerio, Swift and the Vitara Brezza.

In a significant change, Maruti's popular Swift hatchback seems to be losing its steam in the market with sales of 12,057 units compared to 14,611 units in the same month in 2016.

    One of the reasons for the lower sales of the Swift could be attributed to the arrival the next-generation Swift in 2018. The company is expected to showcase the new Swift in India at the 2018 Auto Expo to be held in Delhi with the launch slated during the festive season.

    Apart from Maruti's seven models in the top 10 selling cars in India, Hyundai has three models including the Grand i10, Creta, and the Elite i20 premium hatchback. Hyundai now accounts for 16.44 percent market share while Maruti holds a massive market share of 50.12 percent.

    Maruti Suzuki has dominated the market commanding more than 50 percent share. While new models such as Brezza and Baleno have made an impact on the sales of the company, old models such as the Swift is performing well below the target. However, that is expected to change with the arrival of the next-generation Swift.
