Telangana Government Working On Linking Parking Space And Car Registration
The Government of Telangana is working on the new rule to make parking space mandatory for registration of new cars.
The Union Urban Development Ministry came up with an idea of linking the registration of new cars and the availability of parking space, but Telangana government is already working on the details to implement this proposal.
Principal Secretary of Transport, Roads and Buildings Department, Sunil Sharma said that linking the parking space and new car registration may help to solve the parking space problem in the cities.
Sharma said, "The state government is working on guidelines in tune with the Centre's suggestion on parking spaces and it will be completed soon."
Although experts believe that it takes more than the rules to solve the parking problem in cities. Urban planners, transport experts and enforcement agencies stated that people's participation will be a key factor in implementing this rule.
Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu recently stated that the centre was working on making parking space proof mandatory for registration of new vehicles, especially four-wheelers.
But according to experts, apart from imposing such new rules, the government should consider regulating the number of four-wheelers being produced.
Architects stated that it would be hard to find if a person has a parking slot for his or her vehicle. The government's building rules have norms for apartments and multi-storey buildings but not for independent buildings.
Director of Town and Country Planning, K Anand Babu said, "Several suggestions were made on parking space problems and solutions in the comprehensive transportation study for Hyderabad metropolitan region."
