Tata Nexon India Launch Sooner Than Expected
Tata Motors will launch the Nexon compact SUV by August or September 2017 to take advantage of the new GST.
Tata Motors might not wait till Diwali to launch its much awaited Nexon compact SUV. The recent implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) seems to have urged the company to advance the launch of the Nexon.
It was previously expected that the Tata Nexon would be launched in India during the festival season of Diwali in 2017. But the GST has brought in cheers to potential buyers as carmakers have slashed prices and have passed on the benefits to customers.
Tata will advance the launch of the Nexon in India to August or early Septemeber 2017, a good two months ahead of the anticipated launch during the festive period.
All cars and SUVs have received price cuts based on the new taxation system offering 3 to 14 percent price cut. This could have prompted Tata Motors to advance the launch of the Nexon.
The Tata Nexon is the fourth model after Tiago, Hexa and Tigor based on Tata's IMPACT design philosophy. The Nexon is a sub 4-metre SUV which is underpinned by Tiago's platform. The Nexon will rival the likes of Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300 in the Indian market.
The Tata Nexon is expected to be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol mill which powers the Tiago, while the diesel unit will be an all-new 1.5-litre engine. Both the powertrains will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The AMT gearbox option is expected to be offered at a later date.
Tata Motors unveiled the Nexon at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi as a concept. Most of the styling of the concept is expected to be retained on the production version of the Nexon.

Tata Motors is looking to take advantage of the positive sentiments of customers towards GST and wants to offer the Nexon to potential customers with an aggressive pricing. Prices for the Tata Nexon is expected to hover around Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh ex-showroom.
