Tata Nexon AMT: More Details Revealed Ahead of Launch
Tata Motors is all set to launch the AMT version of the Nexon in the Indian market.
Indian automaker Tata Motors recently launched the Nexon compact SUV in the country. At the sidelines of the launch, the company stated that the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) model will be introduced in the future. Now, more details of the AMT variant has been leaked.
Yes, TeamBHP has got hold of an internal document which reveals that the Nexon AMT will be offered in both petrol and diesel variants.
The Nexon will be the first sub-four-metre compact SUV to be equipped with an automatic gearbox in both petrol and diesel variants. Other SUVs such as the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 features automatic gearbox in only one engine option. The EcoSport is available as a petrol automatic, whereas the TUV300 is offered as a diesel automatic.
Tata Motors is likely to launch the AMT variants of the Nexon by early 2018. The company could also debut the Nexon AMT at the 2018 Auto Expo which is scheduled to take place in February 2018.

The Tata Nexon AMT will be equipped with a 6-speed automatic gearbox as their manual counterparts also get the 6-speed manual transmission. The leaked document also revealed that Tata Motors would offer a sunroof on the automatic variants.
The Nexon AMT will be only available in the top-of-the-range XZA trim. The XZA trim also gets a new colour option codenamed as Mari Gold, in addition to the existing colour options. Tata Motors is likely to produce a small batch of Nexon AMT in December 2017 for media drives.
The full-scale production of the Nexon AMT is expected to begin in January 2018, ahead of its launch in February. Apart from the AMT gearbox and the sunroof, the compact SUV will be identical to the manual variant.
The Nexon is available in two engine options, a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. Both the engine produces a maximum power output of 108.5bhp. The torque figures for the petrol engine stands at 170Nm, whereas the diesel engine produces 260Nm of torque. You can read our first drive review of the Nexon to know more about the compact SUV.

The Nexon will be the first compact SUV to get an automatic gearbox in both petrol and diesel variants. The mileage figures are expected to remain unchanged as compared to the manual version of the SUV. The Nexon AMT is likely to come with a premium of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 over the equivalent manual variants.
