Tata Motors Contemplating Increasing Production Of Tiago
“When Tiago was launched a year ago, we produced 3,000 units a month; we have now doubled output and are work on improving it,” said, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit.
Tata Motors is mulling to boost the production capacity for manufacturing Tiago. This comes amidst high demand for the small hatchback car.
As per Business Line, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors said, "When Tiago was launched a year ago, we produced 3,000 units a month; we have now doubled output and are work on improving it."
Tata Motors has received over 83,000 bookings for Tiago since its launch in April 2016 and has so far delivered more than 50,000 units.
The Tiago has been selling 4500-5000 units a month and is gaining market share in the competitive segment.
Pareek added that the company has grown in its passenger vehicle (PV) sales by 22 percent. "This year, the industry is expected to grow 9-10 per cent and we aim to grow better than the industry. We are now the fifth PV brand and the third in Tamil Nadu. Our aim is to reach the third position in the PV market by 2019," he said.
The Tiago is a small hatchback avialable in both petrol and diesel models. While the petrol model is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder engine producing 84bhp and 114Nm of torque, the diesel model is powered by the 1.05-litre Revotorq three-cylinder engine developing 69bhp and 140Nm of torque.
Tata Motors offers the Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) on the petrol along with the 5-speed manual gearbox. However, the diesel model is available only with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
