Tata Motors’ Kite 5 Sedan Launch Details Revealed
Tata Kite 5 subcompact sedan will have the underpinnings of the Tiago. The design language of the Kite 5 will be based on the exteriors of the Tiago and the interiors will be slightly different.
Tata Motors has been working on a new subcompact sedan for a while and spy pictures of testing the sedan on Indian roads have been doing the rounds. Now, the company is all set to launch the sedan codenamed Kite 5 in March 2017.
The Kite 5 sedan is based on the Tiago platform and will share the exterior design. To set the Kite 5 sedan apart from the Tiago hatchback, the interiors will be slightly different. The Kite 5 sedan was supposed to be launched in January 2017; however, it was re-scheduled as dealership network wasn't equipped enough to cater to new launches.
Tata Motors launched its flagship vehicle Hexa in January 2017 and this might be the reason for a phased launch of vehicles from the company.
The company is yet to give the Kite 5 a name; however, rumours are rife that it might be called ‘Tata Viago or Tata Altigo'. Even the Tiago hatchback was named close to the launch, it was previously named ‘Zica'.
Tata Motors had showcased the Kite 5 sedan at the 2016 Auto Expo held in Delhi and has been in the news for its new and fresh design. It is to be seen if the concept will make it to production or will Tata make some changes to the Kite 5 beforeit is launched in the country.
The Kite 5 will follow Tata Motors' IMPACT design philosophy similar to the Hexa and Tiago and even be equipped with ConnectNext system feature. Tata has been focusing on the infotainment system on recently launched vehicles and this will be seen on the Kite 5 as well.
It is expected Tata Motors will equip the Kite 5 with a5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 8 speakers and steering mounted audio controls. On the safety front, the Kite 5 is expected to come with dual airbags, ABS and EBD.
As for the powertrains, the Kite 5 will be powered by the same engines as the Tiago. The petrol mill will be the Revotron 1.2-litre and the 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engine.
Tata Motors is known for its competitive pricing and the Kite 5 sedan is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh ex-showroom.
