Tata Motors confirms rivals for the Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass.
In the backdrop of a favourable response to the recently unveiled Tata Nexon, the home-grown carmaker is shifting gears and is looking to establish itself as a leader in the SUV segment in India.
As per Autocar, Tata Motors has confirmed to launch a subcompact SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta as well as an SUV to compete with the Jeep Compass.
The company will launch two new SUVs, a 5-seater and a 7-seater in the next financial year 2018-19. The 5-seater SUV, which will be priced in the range of Rs 13 lakh will compete with current segment leader Creta as well as the upcoming Renault Kaptur.

The 7-seater SUV will rival the Jeep Compass and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15 lakh. Both the models will be based on the L550 platform which underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
While the new SUVs share the platform of the Discovery Sport, both of them will be different regarding styling and feel. Also, both will not share the engines either.
Tata is expected to power the 5-seater SUV with FCA's 2.0-litre Multijet II engine that will be tuned to develop 138bhp and 168bhp for the 7-seater SUV. Also, we can expect two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive setup on the upcoming Tata SUVs.
