Sonalika Builds World's Largest Tractor Manufacturing Plant
Sonalika's world's largest tractor manufacturing plant will have annual production capacity of two lakh unit in addition to the existing one lakh unit capacity.
Indian tractor maker International Tractor Limited, owner of Sonalika Tractors brand, will open the world's largest tractor manufacturing plant in India.

The plant situated in Hoshiarpur, Punjab spans an area of 225,000 sqm. and will take the total production up by two lakh units annually offering employment to 1,500 persons in addition to the existing 4,000 workers.

Mahindra Tractors is a close second with an annual production capacity of 1,50,000 units at Zaheerabad in Andhra Pradesh. The third largest tractor manufacturing plant in the world is owned by YTO Tractors from China with an annual production capacity of 80,000 units.

BK Singh, Sr. General Manager, Human Resource, International Tractor Limited said, "We are in a process to add 1500 workforce for our new facility. We tied-up with Industrial Training Institutes for hiring new candidates".

The company on an average employs around 300 workers every year on different levels either as a replacement or as a new addition to the company.

The company has invested Rs 500 crores into this new line which is environmentally friendly boasting of natural light and ventilation. Additionally, the facility complies with all industrial safety standards as laid down by OHSAS.
Of the total three lakh unit production, two lakh will be for the domestic market, while the remaining will cater to the needs of the export markets.

The world's largest tractor manufacturing plant is fully equipped to build the complete range of tractors from 20hp to 120hp and can produce one tractor in 2 mins. The company is moreover intending to add new varieties of tractors and plans to manufacture tractor up to 200hp.

Also, the company produces more than 50 percent of components inside the plant such as engine, gearbox, chassis and sheet metal parts. The company outsources few child parts and other systems to component manufacturers.

In 2016, the company reported the highest sales of 81,531 units, growing at 19.6 percent over 2015. In India, the company sold 69,290 units while exports contributed 12,241 units growing at 29.3 percent. The company expects the double-digit growth over the coming years.
