Second Edition Of The India Baja Rally To Kick Off On April 7

The second edition of the India Baja Rally will be held from April 7 to April 9, 2017, in Jaisalmer. The rally is also a part of the Dakar Challenge Series.

The winner of the two-wheeler class of the India Baja rally will get a free entry to the Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco. And the biggest prize is the free entry to the world's toughest rally, the 2018 Dakar Rally.

The winner of the four-wheeler category will earn a free entry to the 2018 iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm. The India Baja rally will be held over two legs, which is divided into six stages covering a distance of 430km.

The India Baja rally will witness fierce competition in the two-wheeler class. Hero Motorsports Team Rally rider Joaquim Rodriguez and TVS riders Adrien Metge and Aravind K.P are the prominent competitors.

India's top rally rider C S Santosh will miss the event because of the neck injury he suffered during the Desert Storm rally. The other prominent Indian riders include national champions R Nataraj and Abdul Wahid Tanveer from TVS Racing.

The second iteration of the India Baja rally will be flagged off from Jaisalmer on April 7, 2017, and the rally will reach its climax on April 9, 2017. The rally will witness the participation of over 100 competitors.

Sporting Director of the Dakar Rally and five-time Dakar winner, Marc Coma said, "As a former rider, I'm very excited to see the promotion of the discipline in India. Now onwards, riders have a relevant platform to discover and practice road book and navigation, a stepping stone to attend Dakar Series events or even the Dakar itself."
