WRC Champion Sebastien Ogier Tests Red Bull Formula One Car
Four-time WRC champion Sebastien Ogier has tested the Red Bull Formula One car.
Four-time FIA World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier has tested a Formula One car for the very first time. He described the test as a dream come true.
Ogier was behind the wheel of a 2011-spec Red Bull RB7 Formula One car at the Red Bull Ring race track in Austria. Ogier always wanted to test an F1 car, but his previous contracts with Citroen and Volkswagen barred him from doing that.
Now, Ogier is driving for a privateer team, M-Sport, which is also sponsored by Red Bull. Ogier said, "As a kid I was watching (Ayrton) Senna, he was my idol, and of course I was dreaming one day to try this kind of car."
Currently, Ogier leads the WRC driver's championship with an 11 point lead over Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville. With the summer break after the first half of the season, Ogier travelled to Austria to live his F1 dream.
Ogier further said, "For a racing driver to have fun you need to be fast and a Formula One car is the fastest car you can drive, so of course every racing driver wants to feel that one day." Former Red Bull driver David Coulthard was also present during the test to guide Ogier.
Ogier was confident during the testing. He changed the traction control of the car and as the day progressed he was brave enough to switch off the traction control completely.
DriveSpark Thinks!
It is not the first time a WRC driver has tested an F1 car. Previously, Sebastien Loeb also tested a Red Bull F1 car. Ogier did not face much trouble as the modern WRC cars have evolved in the past six years.
