Rolls-Royce Dawn Goes The Black Badge Way, Set For Goodwood Debut
The Rolls-Royce Dawn is the latest car from the British Marque to get the Black Badge Treatment, making it the first convertible Black Badge.
Rolls-Royce has launched yet another car under its Black Badge performance branding. This time, it is the Rolls Royce Dawn to receive the Black Badge treatment after the Ghost and Wraith. According to Rolls-Royce, the Black Badge performance sub-brand is meant to appeal to younger buyers, who would otherwise shy away from Rolls-Royce's stately image.
The Black Badge Dawn sports many blacked out changes inside and outside the car. The car's exterior is finished in a shade of black which according to the british marque is the deepest black ever to be painted onto the exterior of a production vehicle.
When Rolls-Royce say black, they mean it. The rear deck and the leather roof are also finished in the ‘deepest black'. Even the spirit of ecstasy, the iconic mascot which has graced every single Rolls-Royce ever built, has been finished in Black Chrome. Other parts like the front grille surrounds, boot lid finisher and exhaust pipes which were finished in chrome on the standard Dawn, are all now in Black Chrome.
The black theme is carried over to the interiors as well with an all-black interior. The seats are made of black leather and features Mandarin Orange highlights. Other interior surfaces are made of aircraft grade aluminium threads woven together and bonded in carbon fibre, finished in six coats of lacquer and then hand polished. Talk about exquisite interiors eh?
It isn't just aesthetic upgrades that the Black Badge Dawn features. The drivetrain too features quite a few major changes when compared to the standard RR Dawn. The 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, now produces 593bhp, 30bhp more than the standard Dawn. Maximum torque output now stands at 840Nm, an increase of 20Nm.
Top speed, like the standard Dawn, remains limited to 250 km/h, but acceleration is quicker, dispatching the dash from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The Black Badge Dawn also features a new exhaust system, which according to Rolls-Royce, produces a deep bass-baritone sound when the ‘low' button is pressed.
The suspension has been reworked, gearbox has been fiddled with and throttle response settings too have been changed on the Black Badge Dawn, making it ride flatter at high speeds, shift quicker and hold on to gears for longer. The steering rack has now been quickened to give a better response to the driver.
Prices have not been announced yet, but customers can commission their Black Badge Dawn. The sole convertible option in the Black Badge range will be showcased at the Goodwood festival of speed which is scheduled to take place over this weekend.

Rolls-Royce always seems to take it to a new level altogether when it comes to customising their cars. With the Black Badge series, Rolls-Royce's cars are now appealing to the younger generation like never before, including myself. Unfortunately though, I do not have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend. However, if you do, I think the Black Badge Dawn is worth taking a look at.
