Renault To Launch Electric Kwid In China - Report
French automaker Renault is planning to launch an electric version of the Kwid in the Chinese market.
Several automakers around the globe are working on electric vehicles. Now Renault is also planning to launch an electric version of the Kwid in China.
Nikkei has reported that the plan is to build an affordable A-segment vehicle for city commute with short drives. The report also states that Nissan will have its version of the vehicle.
The development was confirmed by Nissan CEO, Hiroto Saikawa. The EV is targeted at metro cities such as Beijing and Shanghai and likely to be launched by 2018. Renault and Nissan's partner in China, Dongfeng Motor will manufacture the EV to cut costs.
The report also states that Mitsubishi could also get access to the platform and it could develop its version. The Chinese government has been offering incentives on electric vehicles, and in future, every automaker should produce EVs as part of its product portfolio.
