French auto major Renault is gearing up to launch its new compact crossover, the Kaptur in the Indian market. Ahead of that the vehicle is spotted testing in India.

Renault offers the compact crossover as Captur (with C) in the developed markets, and as Kaptur in developing markets such as India. Rushlane has spotted the compact crossover testing in India.

On the styling front, the Kaptur is identical to the European-spec model. Only minor differences can be seen on the bumper with LED daytime running lights and a larger grille.

The interior of the Kaptur has also been captured in the spy shots. The interior features 7-inch infotainment system, flat-bottomed steering wheel and climate control.

The Renault Kaptur will be offered in a five-seater configuration in India. The compact crossover has an impressive boot space of 387 litres which can be expanded to 1,200 litres with the rear passenger seats completely folded.

The India-spec Kaptur is likely to draw power from a 1.5-litre diesel engine which is also found in the Duster SUV. The oil burner is offered in two tune options - 84bhp and 108bhp.

Renault will slot the Kaptur compact crossover above the Duster SUV in the Indian market. Once launched the Kaptur will lock horns with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV 500 and Honda BR-V.
