Reckless Bus Drivers Racing On The Road — Reasons And Actions Taken Against Them
The reckless bus drivers who were filmed have had action taken against them. Here is a look at why they drive rash and risk lives.
A video surfaced on social media networks a few days ago, when an average citizen recorded a video of two private buses racing against each other. The reckless driving endangered the lives of other motorists on the road too.

Such an incident is not the first. Private buses racing against each other is a common sight on few roads in Tamil Nadu, especially between Mettupalayam and Coimbatore, and a few surrounding places. Bus drivers put the passengers, other motorists, and even pedestrians in a state of risk.

Accidents due to such rageful acts is frequently reported, and to an inexperienced driver, the sight of an overspeeding bus tailgating his or her vehicle is enough to create a panic attack and cause an accident.

So why do bus drivers drive like a bat out of hell? For starters, every passenger counts. The increased number of trips between two points, the more passengers they can ferry, in return, more money. What they do fail to understand is the number of lives at risk.

Incidents such as these have been an issue for a while when even the police couldn't do much. When matters went from bad to worse, authorities finally stepped in, and in a bid to control road rage, drivers were even asked to have a photo of their family in the bus, so that they slow down.

For the first time after a long, violent list of reports, the roads seemed to be peaceful. That, however, was short-lived. Coming back to the video, the authorities seized the two buses and suspended the licences of both drivers. Is that enough? No.

What authorities should have done is cancelled their driving permits. Such an action would have made them understand the seriousness of the incident and would have sent a wave of fear amongst other drivers, preventing road rage in the future.
What more? The permits of the buses should have been cancelled too, giving transport owners a warning so that the next time they hire, a background check will be in place. The action could be a cruel step but towards the betterment of a safer tomorrow.
