Pirelli Reveals Expanded Tyre Range For 2018 F1 Season
Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has revealed the tyre options for the 2018 F1 season.
Formula 1's supplier Pirelli has revealed the expanded tyre compound range for the 2018 F1 season. The Italian tyre manufacturer has added two new dry-weather tyres for the next season of F1.

The two new tyre compounds bring the new 'Rainbow' range of tyres for F1 to a total of seven which means that there is a duo of new colours that will be painted on the sidewalls. The two new setup on opposite ends of the new dry tyre compound lineup.

The softest tyre compound on offer is the new Ultrasoft tyre, a name which was chosen by F1 fans, 62 percent of whom opted for the winning name over extreme-soft and mega-soft. The sidewalls of the new ultrasoft tyres are painted pink.

The other compound on offer in the new seven tyre setup is the brand new 'Superhard' tyre which features sidewalls painted in orange. The new superhard compound is the hardest compound of the new 2018 range which is softer than the set of tyres used by Formula One for 2017. The orange colour of the superhard means that the regular hard compound now gets ice-blue painted sidewalls.

Speaking about the new tyre range, Pirelli racing manager Mario Isola said, "The tyres we have created for 2018 addresses this, in line with the objective of having around two pitstops at most races.However, the fundamental design concept of the tyres hasn't changed next year, preserving the attributes that all drivers have appreciated this year and allowing them to push hard from the start to the finish of each stint."

The all-new Pirelli tyre range for Formula One is softer on the whole as the Italian tyre manufacturer looks to make F1 more interesting with more pit stops. If the new compounds will work as Pirelli wants them to will only be seen when the teams put them to the test after the final race of the season tomorrow at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuit.
