Peugeot’s India Product Portfolio Revealed
French automaker Groupe PSA is set to enter the Indian market with its Peugeot brand.
French automaker Groupe PSA is set to enter the Indian market with its Peugeot brand. The company has partnered with CK Birla Group and is expected to enter the Indian market by 2020.
Overdrive reports that Peugeot is betting high on the Hindustan Motors' Chennai plant to kick off its India operations. So, Peugeot's investments will come down. The company is already testing its car on the Indian roads.
Coming to the product lineup of Peugeot, it is likely to enter India with two hatchbacks and two SUVs.The first product will be the 208 hatchback and it is expected to be manufactured in India. The Peugeot 208 will come with a 1.2-litre petrol motor and will rival the likes of Hyundai i20.
The second hatchback is the Peugeot 308. The hatchback was globally revealed earlier this year. Technical specs are yet to be confirmed, and it will also be produced in India.
Peugeot will have two SUVs in India, 2008 and 3008. The 3008 SUV has won the 2017 Car of the Year Award at the Geneva Motor Show. The SUV will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines.
Peugeot 2008 will use the same engines equipped in the 3008. The SUV will be assembled in India and the 3008 will be brought as a Completely Built Unit to the Indian shores. Coming to the sales and service, PSA is likely to utilise Hindustan Motors' framework in the country.
A PSA spokesperson revealed that the Peugeot vehicles are made exclusively for the Indian market. Which will be in line with Peugeot's strategy of 'Be Indian in India'.

Peugeot already owns the Ambassador brand. And now the automaker is set to enter the Indian market. It will be interesting to see if Peugeot will make use of the Ambassador moniker in future.
