Panasonic Showcases Solar Roof For Toyota Prius Prime — Natural Charger?
Panasonic's new solar roof for the Toyota Prius Prime is capable of generating up to 180 watts of power.
The integration of solar cells into the roofs of consumer vehicles has always caused a fair amount of judgment because of its cost-to-benefit ratio; the plan is still one that grabs many people's attention.
Panasonic possibly took some of the reviews of the idea into account with the conception of its new solar roof for the Japanese version of the Toyota Prius Prime. The company claims the solar roof can generate up to 180 watts of power.
Toyota claims that the solar roof can provide the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with around 3.7 miles (5.95km) of range a day when parked outside.
Prominently, the panel doesn't change the shape of the PHEV's roof - the silhouettes and aerodynamics are the same.
The Toyota Prius Prime is powered by the 1.8-litre four-cylinder VVT engine with a pair of electric motors. The internal combustion engine produces 94bhp and 142Nm of torque. Thier combined output is 120bhp.
