Ride Sharing By Uber And Ola Illegal — Karnataka Transport Commissioner
Ridesharing services offered by Uber and Ola is illegal says the Karnataka Transport Commissioner. Here’s more.
MK Aiyappa, Karnataka State Transport Commissioner has said that the ridesharing services offered by Taxi aggregators like Uber and Ola is illegal. He also said that action will be taken against offenders after a meeting with cab aggregators on Monday.
The cab service providers introduced ridesharing features in Bangalore to promote carpooling that would reduce traffic, and also offer passengers a ride for lower fares.
Aiyappa said: "The shared services violate Motor Vehicle Act and the Karnataka On-demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016. The cabs are permitted only to pick and drop the passengers to a particular point."
The Transport Commissioner assured no action would be taken for the next four days, and said: "A meeting has been scheduled on Monday, where we will listen to the representatives of cab aggregators."
