New-Generation Nissan Leaf Will Receive Semi-Autonomous Feature
Nissan has announced that the new-generation Leaf will feature semi-autonomous ProPilot system.
When the new-generation Nissan Leaf hits the streets, the all-electric hatchback will include a host of semi-autonomous features that include braking, acceleration and steering assistance.
Nissan refers to it as ProPilot. The system will even be able to function in stop-and-go traffic, making the most tiresome driving conditions at least slightly less stressful.
The ProPilot will employ a network of cameras and radar sensors, which will track lane lines as well as vehicles ahead of and behind the Leaf and regulate its speed to keep it centred.
The company also said that it would add more capabilities to the ProPilot system in the coming future, including the capacity to navigate city intersections.
The second-generation Nissan Leaf is expected to make its debut as 2018 model year, will come close to breaking the barrier of 200 miles (350km) benchmark on a single charge. This is to keep the Leaf competitive against rivals such as Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model 3.
By adding the semi-autonomous feature on the new Leaf is another attempt by Nissan to be ahead of Tesla Model 3, which will boast of Tesla's Autopilot system.
When launched, the new Nissan Leaf could secure Nissan's current position as the top mainstream EV seller around the globe.

With Nissan selling more than 270,000 units of the Leaf all-electric, it is clear that the company wants to take the Leaf to the next level to beat the competition.
