Japanese automaker Nissan has finally confirmed that the Kicks compact SUV will be launched in the Indian market in 2018.
Speaking to Autocar India, Senior VP of Nissan and Chairman of Management Committee for Africa, Middle East and India, Paymen Kargar said that the next product for India would be the Kicks SUV which is slated for 2018.

Since 2013, Nissan has not launched any new product in Indian mass market segment. With the Kicks, Nissan aims to introduce a slew of new models. Kargar said that Nissan would introduce several new products in the future, the model line-up will be global, but it will be tweaked to suit the Indian conditions.

The Nissan Kicks will be based on Renault's M0 platform which also underpins the Duster and the Captur. Nissan is highlighting the M0 platform as an advantage as the quality of the Kicks will be very high and the price will be in check.

The overall design of the Kicks is identical to the equivalent Renault models. The styling looks funky and the sloping roof design gives the SUV an aggressive look. The roof rails and the faux bash plates render a rugged look to the rather smooth design lines of the Kicks.

On the interior, the kicks will feature a 7-inch infotainment system with connectivity options. Apart from that, the compact SUV will be equipped with the digital-analog instrument cluster, automatic climate control, flat-bottom steering wheel and dual-tone upholstery.

The Nissan Kicks is likely to draw from a 1.5-litre or a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is also equipped in the soon to be launched Captur which produces 108bhp of power. Renault might also offer 1.5-litre petrol engine deployed in the Duster.

The compact SUV segment is booming in India and Nissan is planning to take advantage of that by introducing the Kicks. The Kicks will be slotted above the Terrano and will be priced around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. The compact SUV will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, upcoming Renault Captur and Tata Nexon.
