Next-Gen Suzuki Grand Vitara To Lose Off-Road Capabilities; Confirms Suzuki
The next-gen Grand Vitara will be based on Suzuki’s latest global architecture platform.
Japanese automaker Suzuki's Grand Vitara is known for its off-road capabilities but the manufacturer has now confirmed that the next-generation model will be a more road-focused one. This is because of the increased worldwide demand for crossover models.
Takanori Suzuki, Suzuki's General Manager for Oceania and Latin America has told Caradvice the company has planned to redesign the next-gen Grand Vitara. He also told that "most mainstream demand was softer crossovers."
Suzuki also said, "We'd imagine a stretched Vitara with more space and power seems like the obvious destination for the next Grand Vitara. New Grand Vitara, sorry, we haven't really decided yet whether it has reduction gear, is a real off-roader, or is like a current Vitara-style crossover."
The new model will be more road-focussed and will compete in the crossover segment. The next-gen Grand Vitara will be based on Suzuki's latest global architecture platform.
So, we can expect the new model to share a lot in common with the current generation Grand Vitara. Suzuki will tweak the model to make it lighter and more refined but the new Grand Vitara will lose the capabilities to take on harsh terrains.
