New Renault Kwid Variant Teased — Launch Imminent?
Renault has teased a new variant of Kwid on its social media platforms. The images suggest that the new model is the rugged venison of the currently sold Kwid.
French auto major Renault is teasing a new model on its social media platforms. By taking a closer look at the teaser images, we can assume that it is a Kwid, but with few tweaks to the bodywork.

According to reports, the teased model is going to be the new variant of the Kwid; the new vehicle is expected to be based on the 1-litre variant of the currently sold crossover hatch in the Indian market.

The teased images appear to be the rugged version of the Kwid, the Kwid Climber. The off-roading iteration of the Kwid was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as a concept model. The concept design featured high ground clearance, redesigned body cladding, shorter overhang and off road tyres.

Renault has teased two images of the new variant of the Kwid. The teased model also borrows design cues from another concept model, the Kwid Racer which was also showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The teased car features a front splitter element on the bumper with orange detailing, roof rails with orange inserts; the body is finished with blue colour and orange ORVM covers.

The teaser images state that the new variant of Kwid will ‘Steal the Limelight' and ‘Style Redefined', which suggest that it might be a cosmetic upgrade to the current model without any mechanical updates.

Currently, the Kwid is offered in two engine options, an 800cc petrol engine and a 1-litre petrol engine, both the engines are naturally aspirated. The smaller engine is mated to a 5-speed manual; gearbox, whereas the 1-litre engine also comes with 5-speed automated manual transmission.

The Renault Kwid Climber will be the second such variant of the best-selling crossover hatch in India. Previously, the company launched the ‘Live For More' edition in January 2017.
